Mission Statement

RIHA Journal features outstanding research articles in the history of art that offer significant contributions to current scholarship.

The journal is edited by the Directors of the member institutes of RIHA, the International Association of Research Institutes in the History of Art. A joint project of 27 institutes in 18 countries, the journal provides an excellent medium for fostering international discourse among scholars.

RIHA Journal seeks to reflect the manifold dimensions of the discipline and is open to the whole range of art historical topics and approaches. It offers articles in either English, French, German, Italian, or Spanish – both original contributions and translations of recent articles previously published in other languages. There are no periodical issues but articles appear continuously, one by one.

RIHA Journal is a not-for-profit e-journal committed to the principles of Open Access. All articles are available without restriction and free of charge.

Each of the 27 RIHA institutes is responsible for establishing and maintaining the contact with authors and reviewers, for taking care of the editing of manuscripts, and for organizing the review process. A double-blind peer review process performed by experts in the field ensures the highest standards of scholarship.

The editors of RIHA Journal take seriously the need of scholars to publish their research results easily and quickly. Hence the journal seeks to offer its authors short editing processes of three months only from submission to publication.

RIHA Journal invites submissions on any topic in the history of art, both from members of the RIHA institutes and from any other researchers in the history of art.

If you are interested in contributing an article to RIHA Journal, please consult the RIHA Journal Submission Guidelines.
