Herman van Bergeijk studied art and architecture history and philosophy at the University of Groningen and architecture history at the Instituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice. In 1995 he received his Ph.D. in Groningen with a study into the work of the Dutch architect W.M. Dudok. After having worked several years as a freelancer he teaches History of Architecture in Delft since 1997. Although he has published on many topics. His field of expertise has become Dutch architecture during the Inter-bellum and in particular the problems regarding the manifestation of modernism and the relationship between vision and architecture. He has published books on H.P. Berlage, the influence of Frank Lloyd Wright in the Netherlands and on Jan Wils. He has recently finished a book on the work of Jan Duiker.
