Miguel Mesquita Duarte (PhD) is a member of the Institute of Art History, Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Mesquita Duarte’s work concentrates on such themes as archival art, the politics of memory, counter-narrativity, social and political censorship and voyeurism. His publications include “Photography and Writing, or the Intimacy of the Image: a Dialogic Encounter Between Barthes’s Camera Lucida and Blanchot’s Philosophy of Otherness”, in: Photographies (forthcoming); “Writing History Through Film: Cinema, Memory, and the Persistence of Time in Heddy Honigmann’s Forever”, in: Studies in Documentary Film 12 (2017), no. 1, 56-71; and “On a 1947 Rediscovery: Archive, Memory and Self-Inscription in the Work of Julião Sarmento” (with Bruno Marques), in: Photographies 9 (2016), no. 3, 251-273.
