Markus Schindlbeck

Markus Schindlbeck is a former curator of the Department of Visual Anthropology and the Collection of Oceania and Australia at the Ethnologisches Museum, Berlin. He received his doctorate in anthropology from the University of Basel and has done fieldwork among the Sawos and Kwanga peoples in Papua New Guinea. Further fieldwork and collecting was done in Micronesia in 1986. For the museum in Berlin he acquired contemporary Māori art in 1993. He has taught at the Universities of Basel, Freiburg i.Br., Göttingen and Freie Universität Berlin. His publications comprise books and articles on anthropology, the history of collections and photography.
